Message from the trustees

Since the formation of Balls to Cancer as a charity, a lot of time and effort has been invested in a nationwide awareness campaign to make both men and women aware of the dangers of cancer, and in particular male cancers. As with all new charities, a high level of initial financial investment has been needed to establish Balls to Cancer as a well-known charity with a high public profile and a wide base of supporters.  This has included gaining exposure for the charity through merchandise, advertising, events and the media.

The primary aim of Balls to Cancer is, always has been, and always will be to raise male cancer awareness and to support male cancer education and research.  All donations received by Balls to Cancer are applied towards this purpose.

The publicly available accounts of Balls to Cancer for its first year reflect its strategy and aims.  We are proud to say that the accounts also demonstrate how much hard work and support has gone into making Balls to Cancer the charity it is today.

The trustees of Balls to Cancer would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of the charity’s supporters for their continued fundraising and hard work, without which none of our continuing work in raising cancer awareness would be possible.

The Wedding

2 1/2 years Rob Davis-Hillard was diagnosed with testicular cancer at the age of 24, he was taken in for an operation and to this date is all clear.

On the 17th of August he got married and they had the balls to cancer pens for the men’s favours and also Rob, his best man (Giles Cobley) and ushers were wearing balls to cancer boxers and I have attached a picture of Rob and his best man in their boxers just before they got ready to go to the church. I have also attached some pictures of Rob and his lovely wife!

Congratulations to them and thank you both for supporting Balls to Cancer!

Introducing Balls to Cancer FC

The team has been set up and will be managed by our Official Luke Durnall and his assistant manager Richard Dockery

Our Football technical Director Vicky Mitchell will oversea the training and fitness side.

The team (which will be self financed) is made up of our supporters and they will be helping spread the word about the charity and what we do at their games.

Neil’s Story

I have been successfully treated for testicular cancer this year (I actually received a much appreciated ‘good luck’ tweet for you guys on the morning of my operation) and am now in remission. Throughout the time I found that I often couldn’t think of any questions at the right times and then would have loads later that I couldn’t find answers to. I decided to keep a blog as things progressed and in it I tried to be both as honest but also as descriptive as possible so that if anyone else was looking for those answers they could read them first hand.

I don’t know if its something you would be interested in but I am more than happy for you to post a link to it, or reproduce sections of it on your website if you like? This is in no way an ego trip to get more viewers – I haven’t actually shared my page with any of my family or friends but am more than happy for a stranger to read it if it helps even one person. Nor am I seeking anything in return (although I am planning a few runs for The Christie including the London Marathon next year) so may plug a JustGiving page at some point in the future. Like I say I would just like to help anyone going through what Ive been through.

Anyway, feel free to read and do with as you like – my blog is http://runstrong-livestrong.blogspot.co.uk/

As part of their ongoing commitment to supporting local charities Marstons PLC based in Wolverhampton made a massive £1000 donation to our cause. This money will make a massive difference in our fight against male cancer.
